Introduction
I remember when I was studying animation, I got so excited finding websites from different animators and I would frame-by-frame all of their animations. It could be a simple test or a shot for one of those amazing animated films. It was and still really helpfull, motivating and inspiring.
So, In this section I´m going to share my animations. From the very beginning as a animation student, to my latest animation shots. With the same idea to try to help, motivate, or even inspire others.

Disney Animation Studios (2012)
On January 2012 I started working as animator at Disney Animation Studios for the film "Wreck-it Ralph".

Blue Sky Studios (2010 - 2012)
I worked as animator for "RIO" and "Ice Age 4: Continental Drift".

ICE AGE 4 - Pre-production
Before the production of Ice Age 4 began, I had the chance (and luck) to work with the Lead Characters to help create the coolest bad guy in the movie, Captain Gutt. For me, pre-production is the best part of the movie making process - the time to define personalities, try different things, explore, invent, discuss, propose, whatever your imagination may offer to make the characters great! Of course, throughout this process some ideas make the final cut, others don't. The greatest reward is being a part of this process.
Here are a couple animation tests I made to explore/define Captain's Gutt personality.

RIO - Training program
Once I got at Blue Sky Studios it was time to start animating, the production of RIO was already running so I had to learn fast some of the basic tools/software that they were using and also the animation style and the rigs. Knowing that Jesse Eisenberg was the voice for the main character Blu I went to YouTube and cut a piece of audio from an interview to him, the most important thing here was to get something similar to the tone that he was using for Blu in the movie. Once I got the audio it was time to start planning and animating but overall ASKING questions to the leads and supervisors about how the rig works, how the character moves and act, etc...I would say that the training program is not about to do your best animation ever, it´s about start getting into the character, rigs, tools, software and the production, there is plenty of time and opportunities to kill yourself trying to get your best animation ever in production. As soon as I started playing around with the rig the first thing I noticed was how complex the rig was, there were controls for everything you can imagine, something really cool and fun, however the rig was super slow, what for me it meant that I had to adjust my workflow a little bit if I wanted to be productive. After 2 or 3 weeks I got my first shots for the movie, the training program was over! Here you can check my first animation at Blue Sky and also my first animation ever with a bird, not easy!

RIO - Fauxparadise sequence
This are the very first shots that I did for the movie RIO!

RIO - Separated sequence
With the next two shots the challenge was how to make the birds appear happy while flying.
__________________________________________________________
RIO - Escape sequence
One of the most challenging things for me to learn at Blue Sky Studios was "cartoon" animation, as you all know they are EXPERTS in that field. I have never animate anything really crazy before "RIO" and one day checking my assignments I saw this three shots in my schedule and I started panicking (as usual), I had no idea how I was going to do all those crazy shots with the two birds Jewel & Blu in a cage chained to each other plus a crazy beat at the end of the third shot...Anyway, this is how those three shots ended, check them out!

RIO - Loversquarrel sequence
Toucan was one of the funniest characters to animate and I had the opportunity to work with him in this shot with the challenge of a cute kiss.

RIO - Reunited sequence
Three more shots with the two birds plus the bad guy (real quick). Check them out!

RIO - Cargo Sequence
I got the first shot of this sequence.

And here my last 4 shots for RIO!

RIO - "Samba Parade" marketing project
When I was done with all my shots for the movie "RIO" I was working on some marketing animations for TV.
One of the marketing projects was "Samba Parade", where basically the characters of the movie had to pass in front of camera dancing. I had to animate Blu, the main character, and the one opening and closing the commercial, not easy! Of course I had the help of the amazing Animation Supervisor Melvin Tan and Marketing Director Nick Cogan on this. As I said before this is a TEAM WORK, everything gets better when there are more than just one person involved so, thank you guys!
The animation was on TV often, however the most exciting moment it was when they played it in some point of the Final of the Super Bowl 2010, the event with the highest TV audience of the year.
Just to clarify this is not the final version of the clip, even the music it was just a reference. Between the first animation of Blu and the second we should see all the other characters of the movie dancing in front of camera as well. Also, this was my last animation for "RIO".
Enjoy!

Animation Reel 2009
You can check my animation Reel 2009 that I sent to Blue Sky Studios to apply for the animator position. I made like 3 or 4 different versions before I had one that I liked. Feedback from my co-workers was really helpful to select my best shots and have a better reel. It´s really hard to select by yourself your work because you saw it million times, and you lose your perspective. I alway recommend to everybody to ask for feedback to create your own animation reels.

Ilion Animation Studios (2007 - 2010)
- "Planet 51"
Ilion Animation Studios (2007 - 2010)
- "Planet 51"
In May 2007 I started working as animator at Ilion Animation Studios for the film "Planet 51", released in November 20th 2009. It was one of the best experiences ever, where I learned how to push my animations in any way, since how to create a better workflow to how to search for better acting options, or how to polish a shot in a way that I never thought before. And all this thanks to all the great animators working there, but specially two of them, Javier Moya Alonso and Ramiro Lopez Dau, both of them now working at Pixar. Here you can find animations that I did for the film, before the film in pre-production, and animations after the film for marketing.
- Pre-production "Planet 51"
This is the first two animations that I made at Ilion Animation Studios, a run cycle with the main soldiers of the film. It was a good exercise to get used to the software & pipeline. Also, I worked in some other cycle that were discard.
After that, I worked in two different animations to get into the style of the film. The first one with Lem, the main character of the film, working basically in his personality and acting. And the second one with Professor Kipple, one of the bad guys, working in how he would act in something specific that only he does. However, this second one was unfinished because the production started.
- Production "Planet 51"
In August 2007 the production of "Planet 51" started with the sequence BBQ.
- BBQ Sequence
I was so exciting but at the same time so scared about to start with "real" shots for the film. Here´s the shots that I made for this sequence.

- MVI Sequence
The next sequence was MVI, one of the coolest of the film, it mixed action + sci-fi + Humaniacs! Lucky me I could animate Humaniacs in two of my shots. Check it out!

- ROV Sequence
With the sequence ROV I had the opportunity to animate ROVER, the robot, with some cool action shot. And I have to say that it was really fun!
- KOL Sequence
The sequence KOL was probably the funniest in the entire film. My first shot for this sequence was to help animating the two soldiers in front of camera while the Lead Animator animated General Grawl. After that, I got the shots were the soldiers got shot by electricity. It was cool to explore the different possibilities for their bodies reaction.

- CHU Sequence
The sequence CHU is where the main characters of the film face each other for the first time. My shots were really hard to animate, I could say that it was the first time that I was facing a real acting shots, something that scared me, knowing that it was Chuck, the human, and knowing the importance of the moment in the film. I´m not happy with the final result of my animations but at least I tried my best.

- ESC Sequence
The sequence ESC was my opportunity to work with all the bad guys including the General Grawl, my favorite! I remember been so excited about this shots and had a lot of fun just exploring for the facial expressions of all the doctors and their poses. Also, I could practice composition/ staging/ action/ reaction between all the characters and their dialogues.

- GRK Sequence
The sequence GRK had some of the most interesting shots for me, the characters didn´t talk so they use gestures and body language to express themselves (pantomime), a real challenge for any animator. It was really fun and usefull as animator to search for options recording myself.

- BKN Sequence
The sequence BKN was deleted from the final version of the film. A shame because there was good and fun stuff from other animators, but this is the way it works sometimes, you can´t fall in love with your shots because you never know what´s going to happen at the end!

- PLN Sequence
The sequence PLN was a tough one for me, my shots were cool, but I had problems with the last one basically getting in what the director wanted. I re-animated that shot several times and I´m still not happy with how it ended...It happens a lot to me as animator.

- FAR Sequence
The sequence FAR is the last one of the film, and so, one of the key moments as well were all the characters have their own moment before the end. I was in charged of Skiff, Rover and Chuck last moments together in the film. The best, the shots with Skiff & Rover, who had a strong friendship during the whole film and now they have to say goodbye. It was really fun and challenging to give Rover, the robot, some kind of feelings and emotions as well.

- HGS Sequence
The sequence HGS changed during the whole production until the last moment. Actually, the audio and animation that I´m showing here is the old version, so it doesn´t match with the one in the final version of the film. And yes, that means that I had to re-animate the shot with a new audio, trying to not change to much my old animation. It happens sometimes.

- KSS Sequence
For the sequence KSS I had to animate ROVER in one "acting" shot. I really liked to animate that robot!
- DOG Sequence
The sequence DOG was the last one to be included in the film. The alien dog got famous after the second trailer before the film came out, everybody loved it! So they decided to create a new sequence just for the alien dog. This is my shot.
- RGH Sequence
The sequence RGH it was really fun for me because I had the shots with the dog scratching his butt on the grass. Just looking for some video references made me laugh out loud. Hopefully, I captured that same essence in my shots!
MUF Animation (2003-2007)
In October 2003 I got my first real job as animator/3d generalist in Barcelona. It was one of the happiest moments ever. After 4 years of animation schools and tons of hours animating at home by myself trying to be better and better finally I could work in what I love!. However nothing changed because I kept animating at home after work everyday. Hard work is one of the most important things to improve your animation skills, but that´s not a secret. I was working at Muf Animation 4 years where I was working basically for TV. I started as animator, but because it was a small studio I had to do design, modeling, texturing, rigging, lighting, rendering, compositing, editing or anything to help. The last year I was promoted to Supervisor animator, where I had to work with a small team of animators and organize the workflow for the projects, and of course I had to animate. Again, not because I got promoted I stopped animating at home everyday, my goal was always to work someday in one of the big animation studios and I knew I had to continue learning and practicing like the first day. Here one of the clips that I worked at Muf Animation.

Old Animation Stuff
I´m going to post animations that I did since I started studying animation in 2000. It´s really exciting and useful to save as much animations as you can since the very beginning so you can take a look at them later and see your progress.
- Animations 2006
I remember for that time focusing on acting animation the most.
- Animations 2004-2005
On January 2004 I took a two weeks Animation Masterclass with Carlos Baena, Pixar animator, who was working for that time in "The Incredibles". He really opened my vision and understands about animation.
Also, I started developing the first ideas for my Batman short film Help Me!

- Animation Reel 2003
This is probably what was my first Animation Reel. It was great to see all this animations again, all of them created by myslef at home in my spare time between work and the animation school. Good times!
In October 2003 I got my first real job as animator.
